Microsoft Sandbox


Windows Sandbox is a new feature that available on Latest version of Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise. It is used to run an isolated or temporary windows environment where you can run untested or untrusted windows application without impact the host machine. Any software that installed in it will stays in the sandbox and will not affect the host and all the content permanently discarded once Windows Sandbox is closed.

To run Windows Sandbox, you don’t need to run any additional steps like virtual box or VMware to create a virtual machine. What you need to do is to enable the feature of Windows Sandbox within of the Windows 10 itself.

Requirement to run the Windows Sandbox
  • Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise
  • AMD64 architecture
  • Virtualization capabilities enabled in BIOS
  • At least 4GB of RAM (8GB recommended)
  • At least 1 GB of free disk space (SSD recommended)
  • At least 2 CPU cores (4 cores with hyperthreading recommended)

Check if Virtualization is Enable

By default, virtualization is enabled by default in BIOS. To confirm if virtualization is enabled in your system, head to Task Manager > Performance and you can see the Virtualization Enabled

Enable Windows Sandbox Feature

Go to Control Panel > Program > Program and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off and select Windows Sandbox feature and click OK to install. Windows will be restarted to complete the installation




Run Windows Sandbox
When you login to windows, type Windows Sandbox on the start menu and select to run the Windows Sandbox




Running Test Software or Application
Copy and paste an executable windows application into the Windows Sandbox and run it as usual to test it out. Simple as this. Use the Windows Sandbox as you use the Windows 10 normally and not to worry it will not have any affect to your host machine and all the testing ill be discarded when you terminate the Windows Sandbox
